Artist's Description

Rainbow Lorikeet taken in my front yard tree at Frankston , Victoria, Australia . I am visited daily by a pair of Lorikeets and weekly they have what seems to be A “Tree Party” where up to12 birds arrive and they all chatter loudly. Beautiful to see and to hear :-)

The Rainbow Lorikeet, Trichoglossus haematodus is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. The taxonomy is disputed, and it is often split into several species
The Rainbow Lorikeet is unmistakable with its bright red beak and colourful plumage. Both sexes look alike, with a blue (mauve) head and belly, green wings, tail and back, and an orange/yellow breast. They are often seen in loud and fast-moving flocks, or in communal roosts at dusk
The Rainbow Lorikeet has acclimatised well to urbanisation and is commonly encountered in well-treed suburbs.http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/
