A brave citizen has jumped from his car and taken his jacket off to beat out the flames in the grass probably started from a thrown cigarette . Taken 18/02/2009, 4pm.

I began my photographic hobby at the age of 12, developing and printing 120, 620 &35mm B&W, forever learning and refining the fascinating art of photography. Now at 78 I still continue with increased enjoyment using digital medium – and still learning.
My favourite places for photography are the Melbourne Zoos . These are the Melbourne Zoo , the Healesville Sanctuary and the Werribee Open Range Zoo.

A very brave man. I hope he managed to put out the fire.
Great shot, Tom, but how terribly sad the opportunity presented. A thoughtless act could have resulted in yet another disaster.

  • Thanks jesika he and the other citizens who worked hard were able to delay the fire only, the grass was so dry, it kept getting away from them . It was the three fire brigade trucks and h2O that did the job in the end , but without the delaying work of the helpers the fire may have reached the farm house .There are more shots to come :-)

Poignant with echoes of the last few weeks! Well captured, Tom.

  • Hopefully today Friday 27th will not be as bad as black Saturday but 36F and strong winds are forecast . Our fire fighters are being bolstered by additional crews from interstate and overseas there are some 42 water carrier planes, planning administration and execution of the emergency services is nothing short of brilliant we are well served indeed. We can see how things are developing with this great Google Fire map:
