Romeo and Juliet II

Romeo and Juliet II

Romeo and Juliet at Melbourne Zoo Australia.
I have not seen this before, two very friendly Parrots of a different family.

At first the close proximity of the Eclectus Parrot to the Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo I assumed to be one of a take over of the hollow in the tree but this was not the case . They were obviously pleased to be with each other rubbing beaks eventually., fascinating.!

Romeo and Juliet II belongs to the following groups:

Tom this is amazing, have not seen inter-species relationships like this in the wild…though I know that some species can be interbred in captivity….. what a great capture!!!

  • Tom Newman replied

Thanks Barb , the closeness of these two is truly amazing and endearing. I have numerous shots of them both taken over time. I shall load up the one I like best on to the Birds group again :-)

The Red female Eclectus of which I have taken may photos with the one in this picture , the regular partner, is not fazed at all that I can see. :-)

I hope you like this homemade video of my pet birds, I call it Bird Love Triangle

or 9021Birds. They should have a soap opera about this strange behaviour, lol.

  • Tom Newman replied

Thanks WaleskaL, I opened up your video and enjoyed the interaction of the birds especially the hostile triangle LoL. In the case of the Eclectus and the Major Mitchell they are all quite happy with the relationships , I have never seen any hostility between the three birds, they are all happy with each other :-)
