Rainbow Lorikeets II
Two Rainbow Lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus ) cooling down in my birdbath in 40Degrees C ( 100+ F). Frankston South, Australia. 30/01/2009
The Rainbow Lorikeet mostly forages on the flowers of shrubs or trees to harvest nectar and pollen, but also eats fruits, seeds and some insects.
The eggs of the Rainbow Lorikeet are laid on chewed, decayed wood, usually in a hollow limb of a eucalypt tree. Both sexes prepare the nest cavity and feed the young, but only the female incubates the egg

Gorgeous birds, they are so gentle. Love the beautiful colours and details.
Tom Newman replied
Thanks Zhao, they are truly beautiful and very intelligent , although, they are the top birds in those that come to eat the seed block in my tree , they are ferocious when it comes to who gets first pecking. ;-)

these guys are so quick and seem shy,

Tom Newman replied
Thanks Wendy, I watch them feeding in a tree outside my lounge room window , they are the dominant birds Rosellas next then Doves in the pecking order. :-)

such sweet loris tom great capture, are they yours or just locals, iknow there are a fair few around down there :)) k
Tom Newman replied
Thanks Kristina, thay are just locals getting cool in the bird bath ,, we have quite a family of them here fortunately :-)
DanielTMiller
Very nice photo, how lucky are you to have them at your hose, would be great.
Tom Newman
Thanks Daniel , I have seed block in a tree just outside my front window and they are there everyday, usually two of them but at the moment three. They are breaking in Junior I guess. On a weekend (for some reason ) there can be a dozen in the tree getting together for a noisy chat and hassle over the seed block, great to watch them all :-)
