Sunlight Strikes an Orange Clivia Miniata

Orange Clivia Miniata , taken at Heronswood Homestead, Dromana, Mornington Peninsua, Australia

The afternoon sun came through the overhead trees to shine right into the cup of the flower, a most unusual phenomena, a lucky capture!

Clivia miniata, also known as Bush lily, is a species of clivia, from South Africa. It grows to a height of about 45cm in the shade of trees and shrubs, and flowers are red or orange, with a faint, but very sweet perfume.
Clivias are named after Lady Clive the Duchess of Northumberland, whose grandfather was the famous Clive of India

Everyone has told me since i joined RB it is all about the lighting, they were right this is a true reflection on this statement. Great shot, well done and it is all about the lighting….

  • Tom Newman

    Tom Newman

Thanks Michael, you are so right, it is all about the light , in this case the light was natural and I was just lucky to be at the right angle to see the sun striking the flower. I find that a light tent is most useful in controlling the light and subject and getting the capture you want . I have many shots of flowers using the tent , the best part is that there is no wind to move them around ! :-)
