Rural America Contest

Rural America Challenge: 2 – Country Roads

(Must be a member of the Rural America group)

Prize – Winner: I have asked Redbubble for a $20.00 voucher. If this is not approved, I will purchase three cards. The winner will also be our Featured Artist!
Runner-up- The runner-up will have the image featured as our avatar.

Theme: Country Roads

Inspired by John Denver’s song, Country Roads. The Lyrics are at the end of this announcement. The original lyrics did not have West Virginia in them. In fact, none of the three writers had even been to West Virginia before the song became a hit. West Virginia was added after one of the writers saw a post card.

With that in mind, create an image the captures the mood of the song. This could include any rural road in North America!

The image must:

  1. Have an explanation of how it captures the mood of the song in the description field
  2. Be tagged with Rural2

Who can take part?: All visual art mediums are welcome

Deadline: May 11th, 2008, 9.00 pm.

Tags: You MUST tag your entry with Rural2. If you do not tag your work, it will not show up in our list and so, it will not be included in the public poll so it must be tagged. Art without the tag will be accepted as a non-challenge entry into the group.

Country Roads lyrics

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains
Shenandoah River -
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin like a breeze

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

All my memories gathered round her
Miners lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice
In the mornin hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin down the road I get a feelin
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads

Great idea. A shame I am living in rural South Africa and therefore can’t compete!
