'Marred Visage'

'Marred Visage'

Inspired by scripture in Isaiah 53, this is part of a project called ‘39 Stripes’. The artwork consists of 2 layers. The back layer represents Christ’s perfect human form whilst the perspex front layer portrays how he bore the pain of our sin through 39 violent lashes received on our behalf. ‘Marred visage’ is about the expression of Christ’s love for us and the immediacy of the markmaking beneath the perspex only gives us a glimpse of how our Lord would have suffered.
