Glaucidium Gnoma, a 6-7" (sparrow-sized) owl who visited yesterday 11/8/2010. One of the few owls with a long tail and two white-edged black spots at the back of the neck suggesting “eyes” (just like Mom). While sketching a great horned owl, I looked up wondering where all the normal feeding birds had gone…as I focused on a fluff ball on the pine tree, just outside the mudroom…where is the camera – hadn’t seen this little one before here! This shot is AS IS, other than sizing, through a window at full zoom from my Sony DSC5 Cybershot.
