Cherokee Star
In honor of the anniversary of my ancestors, The Cherokee (Tsalagi) – I wish to share a part of myself with all who have joined The Beginning of a new Trail...
The Spirit of the Native Indian group has honored us all on this day and for this I am grateful.
The photograph is part of an old quilt with the Cherokee Seven -pointed star which represents the seven clans; I am of the Bird Clan, our color is purple and our wood is Maple; the Owl represents my name “WindOwl”, this particular Owl is a barn owl that I rescued several years ago from being shot, then run over – I learned much from this raptor while we spent 9 months together, before his release.
Cherokee Prayer
Oh Great Spirit,
grant that I never find fault with my neighbor
until I have walked the trail of life in his moccasins.
DOHIYI to ALL who have joined in this remembrance…

tkrosevear replied
Zah la gee or Sa lag gi in Eastern Giduwa dialect or ja la gee in the western dialect OR
A-ni-yv-wi-ya pronounced ah knee yuh wee yaw for “Principal People”
ToastedGhost
Is that not strange?
John an old friend of mine
He has Parkinsons and is in his 80’s
but he rides a motor bike and dances on stage with others of his age
He believes in automatic dancing
I have tried it and it is good for the soul
Well I was dancing in the Kitchen and I felt my hands glow
a connection with this thing we call the universe like never before
Amazing!
tkrosevear replied
OK, too weird – this connection is awesome…I was dancing in my kitchen with my 2 cats to ground a little this morning, been blowing up lightbulbs (lol)...keep glowing my friend, it’s certainly getting interesting ;)

Ah, the name … THAT is an amazing story in itself!!! But another day perhaps….
Thank you for sharing who you are. It is with great honor that I say to you Wanishi!
My ancestry is difficult to trace but the Lenape people also were forced to leave and relocate in Oklahoma. Many who resisted fled north to Maine and Canada where there is still a strong group of Lenapes.
As for me, since I cannot completely trace my roots I have learned from others what my heart must have already known. I apprenticed for three years with a Cherokee medicine woman who lived and studied under Sun Bear. She talks with him still though he has “dropped his robes”. I learned many of the old ways from her but she taught many different ways. The pipe ceremony she taught is Lakota and the sweat lodge in the Paitue tradition. So you can see there was a mix of many native tribes … a rainbow tribe for sure!
So I thank you for keeping the memory of those who did not make it to their earthy destination and celebrate those brave souls who kept their customs and traditions alive for others to follow.
My heart knows where it belongs though I will never be able to prove who I truly am. But to you who can I want to say … never forget who you are and hold firm to your beliefs. May you always find peace within your world. And let us never forget that we are all ONE world.
You can leave your mocassins at my door anytime. :)
