Artist's Description

The most prominent statue in Central Park, was sculptured by Emma Stebbins in 1868, and unveiled in 1873.

The Angel of the the Waters celebrates the purification of the City of New York "s water supply, and was inspired by the Gospel of Saint John. For this reason the angel, carrying the symbol of purification, the lily, in one hand, extends the other hand to bless the waters below.

I hope my photograph does them, (the sculptor and the sculpture), justice.

The Angel of the Waters was featured in the group, Statues and Such.
