The fireplace in one of the front rooms of the old Transcontinental Hotel at Farina. It was later converted into the Farina Hospital, but due to the small population of the town, was operated by the District and Bush Nursing Society of South Australia as a “Cottage Hostel”, though only intermittently due to the difficulty of attracting doctors and/or nurses to the small isolated town.
This remnant is one of several ruins, or part(s) of ruins, that are all that remains of the former town of Farina on the historic Old Ghan (Railway) Line which used to link Adelaide and Alice Springs.
