Monday night and once again the beyond network is sparkling like a Catherine wheel atop a dungheap – entertaining and engrossing reading all round…….terrific challenge Tim! I know I say it every time but I really do think that this one has brought out the best in all of us – wonderful entries from everyone…….(I’m still trying to get my eyes back in their sockets after exploring Dave’s entry(s)..astonishingly good work again Dave…I believe the military may well ask you to develop it as a weapons system – I just went to make a cup of coffee after looking at it all for ten minutes, and put two sugars in the dog’s bowl, such was the disorientating effect….
Reading Zef’s I struggle with the absurdity but accept the reality I couldn’t help but turn it around into the sub-Camus I struggle with the reality but accept the absurdity …:-) It strikes me that our small network here has become well adapted to living with the absurd…I was thinking of the three characteristics required to function when faced with the contradictions of the absurd life, and how this small group appears to have mastered them effortlessly, or I should say instinctively, naturally…..inherently….
These may come in handy for Tim in his journey through the byways of artistic modalities…..
freedom (we are absolutely free to think and behave as we choose)
revolt (we must not accept any answer or reconciliation in our struggle)
passion (we must pursue a life of rich and diverse experiences)
It comes as no surprise that, (given that we all have or are in the process of acquiring these characteristics) the Beyond members feel comfortably at home with the absurd life….
Of Camus’ four examples (of the absurd life) the last (and most complete:) is of course The Artist
Ah, the As and Bs of the world!…it’s true, my armour-plated sides are near bomb-proof, but I assure you, their thickness is in direct correlation to the softness of the centre within:) – I have a fairly simple formula that I apply….It’s either ‘Fine Art’ or it’s ‘Useful Art’, as an unreconstructed Modernist, the separation is a piece of cake for me……though I don’t envy the confusion it presents to the post-modern thinker, where the line between the two does not exist………..I blame Warhol myself…..all that de-personalisation……..
Anyway….splendid challenge! I take it that the voting stage will be it’s usual no-holds-barred melee of vote-rigging, subterfuge and sabotage………can’t wait :-))
