MOE 2..."Museum of Everything" For Exhibit.. "Oscillations 2" by Dante xx by

FOR THE TATE OPEN EXHIBITION 14-16 MAY 2010…Museum of Everything!

Statement Piece 1a for “Oscillations” by Tim Norman….The Theory of Everything.

I describe “Oscillations” as a series of oscillating spheres spinning around a black hole, and characterize it as a collision between the digital and the analogue, initially the concept being the challenged faced by traditional art, now being defunct by the ubiquitous “electro-magnetic” digital art…

Closer inspection shows in the bottom left, a reference to the traditional model of an atom, with electrons spinning around a central neutron. . . . . . .

So, we have a decidedly analogue painting, a play of colour and form, but encompassing both the quantum uncertainties of the microcosm and the imponderable questions of the macrocosm. In this system the mid-point is Man, who summarizes the cosmos. My studies of cell biology and human consciousness features in this piece too.

Catching-up-with-Newton little world, the image also brings to mind a cluster of human cells. My uncle works at CERN and these, the most intimate concerns of the scientists working there, searching for clues that might lead to the beginning of a theory capable of combining the hitherto contradictory physics of the very tiny and the very huge.

A brief slide from high science to low, but equally muddled art, brings us here and now to a forum that might be described as a black hole circled by, at the latest count, eight spherical bodies, begging the central question . . .’What is the gravitational force that keeps us all here?’

Taking a scientific perspective, I should first of all point out the anomalies in the above statement :
a/ Only one of us is spherical
b/ Most of our orbits could be described as ‘wandering’, and arguably we have lost one planet/star altogether.????

Statement Piece 1b ….“Oscillations” by Tim Norman…. ’The Consciousness Continuum’..

“Oscillations” has mandella-like shapes or spheres rotating in the centre. The one with the white middle that is the human soul, protected by blue (blue symbolises purity and safety). Look at those geometric shapes top right hand corner… symbolising a letting go of (structure/control/conformity).

The conglomerate in the middle looks like a drawing together of all resouces (inner strength.) The nucleus..our inner being… Like a concentrated particle/emotional energy system. The “torn face” in the bottom left hand corner is the artist portraying man’s feeling of helplessness but look he doesn’t know his own strength… (the conglomerate in the middle)… has such depth and prominence. A self perpetuating energy system.

“Oscillations” leads the viewer in and in chasing shapes….

The work shows the Traditional canvas disintegrating into the universe, (is painting dead?) behind this oscillating energy dense collapsed star or human consciousness continuum and/or cell representation. I was thinking Dali, Kandinsky, Ephemeral, Sculpural forms,
Kaleidoscope 3d but with the softer inclusion of promenant curves, spheres, more feminised and hot versus cold colors.

The fragments of shattered glass at the edges are synonymous with being ripped apart..or maybe pieced together….like life events.

The colour and the movement in this painting should draw the viewer to look inside for a closer look. It should have a magnetic quality, but there is also a certain intimacy which is hard to define.. but you should get the feeling that something wonderful is happening inside..
I hope the viewer gains a sense of the feelings of the artist ..one word which comes to mind of these combining hot and cold colours is ”passion “ and a constititutional vitality of spirit and optimism.
A passion for life in this painting “Oscillations” contains symbols for feelings and resources deep within us, but could also be symbolic for ” way out there in the cosmos and floating amongst the stars”…a similar or parallel constuct…..universal vibrational energy.

Maybe one can see a soul or entity lost in a world or universe which is roaring around her – unknowing where life will take her”…

The middle looks like a cell with that solitary nucleus…with planets orbiting around it…like the beginning of life…like this is the start of a cosmic being…new matter.
Like a solitary cell..a tiny little creation that multiplies and forms life as we know it….
