The original image is a Vernon family photograph on a postcard though who is who has been lost to history. I love the juxtaposition of the old and the new, the horse-drawn carriage versus the automobile and the bicycle. I restored the photograph (it was faded and indistinct) partly by adding duplicate layers in Photoshop and experimenting with blends. Lastly, I added several of my own textures to produce the final ‘burnt’ effect. The desire to restore its glory inspired me to work on the image.

I very much like both the subject matter and your very appropriate post processing and presentation Sarah, looks like one of the earliest glass plate photographs from the nineteenth century, very well done indeed,
    Regards, Rod.

  • Thank you so much, Rod. Since it was a family photo, it gave me great pleasure bringing out its full glory and watching the figures get clearer and sharper by the second. That you should think it resembles an early glass plate photo gives me even more pleasure.

excellent work on this, it is a great photograph, a real treasure!

  • I’m so glad you think so, Tori. I surprised myself by how well it came out. Even without the process in PS, the more I look at the photograph, the more extraordinary I find it; in other words, it’s not just the juxtaposition of carriage and car but the composition and line. Whichever member of my family captured it, they certainly knew what they were doing! Thank you for you lovely comments.
