This is Tika’s graduation photo. At the age of 16 months she just graduated from Advanced Training program with Honors (the instructor said that she was the best in her class!). Prior to this she completed Beginners, then Intermediate, and finally Advanced.
I’m so proud of my little puppy. She exceeded my expectations long ago.
A few months ago I would not even image that she would be able to do this.
Tika is a rescue from Louisiana, USA where she was rescued by BARK. She was rescued at the age of 6 weeks along with her mom and 7 other littermates. It’s hard to believe that her mom, a little dachshund, was able to care after her 8 puppies for so long while being a homeless stray. I was told that all her puppies were bigger taller than her at the age of 3 months! They were lucky to end up at a shelter in time. Tika’s mom and one of her brothers were adopted in Lousiana, while Tika and her 6 other brothers and sister were brought to Ontario, Canada, where they all got adopted. Tika came to live with me at the age of almost 7 months.
Tika had a lot of psychological issues, she was affraid of a lot of things that she was not familiar with and even simple things were a struggle. She had trust issues, was skinny (only 15 lbs at the time of adoption) and very, very shy. She was having a lot of stomach problems and was not gaining weight despite best diets and even home cooking. Finally we were able to diagnose her with Celiacs and multiple food allergies. With proper prescription diet she doubled up her adoption weight in just a few months!
Tika has come a loooong way since her homless days. She is now a spoiled princess with multiple degrees in canine education :)
Thank you BARK for doing such a great job with your rescues!
