The Economy
A worldwide recession is a very rare event and it has money matters on everybody’s mind.
As anyone who has browsed my sight or read any of my comments knows I like reading the Bible. Might be why I don’t get many comments anymore compared to the first several months of my being on the Bubble…oh well, I don’t care, just part of my ’ torture stake ’.
(2 Tim. 3:12)
Nonetheless, I thought I would post a journal sharing a few things the Bible says about money.
(When you see YOU in all caps it indicates a group of readers as opposed to a single reader. Not personally yelling at anyone.) The New World Translation was used for this post. You can read this translation online at the link provided at the bottom of this post.

(Ezekiel 7:19) . . .“‘Into the streets they will throw their very silver, and an abhorrent thing their own gold will become. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah’s fury. . . .
(Psalm 49:6-7) . . .Those who are trusting in their means of maintenance, And who keep boasting about the abundance of their riches, 7 Not one of them can by any means redeem even a brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him. . .
(Proverbs 11:4) . . .Valuable things will be of no benefit on the day of fury, but righteousness itself will deliver from death. . .
(Proverbs 18:11) . . .The valuable things of the rich are his strong town, and they are like a protective wall in his imagination. . .
(Proverbs 28:20) . . . A man of faithful acts will get many blessings, but he that is hastening to gain riches will not remain innocent. . .
(Ecclesiastes 5:10) . . .A mere lover of silver will not be satisfied with silver, neither any lover of wealth with income. This too is vanity. . .
(Zephaniah 1:18) . . .Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah’s fury. . .
(Hebrews 13:5) . . . Let [YOUR] manner of life be free of the love of money, while YOU are content with the present things. . . .
(1 Timothy 6:9-10) . . .However, those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.
(1 Timothy 6:17-19) . . .Give orders to those who are rich in the present system of things not to be high-minded, and to rest their hope, not on uncertain riches, but on God, who furnishes us all things richly for our enjoyment; 18 to work at good, to be rich in fine works, to be liberal, ready to share, 19 safely treasuring up for themselves a fine foundation for the future, in order that they may get a firm hold on the real life.
(Matthew 6:19-20) . . .Stop storing up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Rather, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
(Matthew 6:24) . . .“No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other. YOU cannot slave for God and for Riches. . .
(Luke 12:16-21) . . .With that he [Jesus] spoke an illustration to them, saying: “The land of a certain rich man produced well. 17 Consequently he began reasoning within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, now that I have nowhere to gather my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my storehouses and build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my grain and all my good things; 19 and I will say to my soul: “Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, enjoy yourself.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Unreasonable one, this night they are demanding your soul from you. Who, then, is to have the things you stored up?’ 21 So it goes with the man that lays up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.. . .
(John 12:6) . . .He [Judas Iscariot] said this, though, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief and had the money box and used to carry off the monies put in it.
(Acts 8:18-20) . . .Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the hands of the apostles the spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying: “Give me also this authority, that anyone upon whom I lay my hands may receive holy spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him: “May your silver perish with you, because you thought through money to get possession of the free gift of God. . .
(2 Corinthians 8:9) . . .For YOU know the undeserved kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich he became poor for YOUR sakes, that YOU might become rich through his poverty. . .
(1 Timothy 6:7-8) . . .For we have brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out. 8 So, having sustenance and covering, we shall be content with these things. . .
(James 2:1-4) . . .My brothers, YOU are not holding the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, our glory, with acts of favoritism, are YOU? 2 For, if a man with gold rings on his fingers and in splendid clothing enters into a gathering of YOU, but a poor [man] in filthy clothing also enters, 3 yet YOU look with favor upon the one wearing the splendid clothing and say: “You take this seat here in a fine place,” and YOU say to the poor one: “You keep standing,” or: “Take that seat there under my footstool,” 4 YOU have class distinctions among yourselves and YOU have become judges rendering wicked decisions, is that not so?
(1 John 2:16-17) . . .the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.
(Proverbs 10:22) . . .The blessing of Jehovah—that is what makes rich, and he adds no pain with it. . .
(Jeremiah 9:23-24) 23 This is what Jehovah has said: “Let not the wise man brag about himself because of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man brag about himself because of his mightiness. Let not the rich man brag about himself because of his riches.” 24 “But let the one bragging about himself brag about himself because of this very thing, the having of insight and the having of knowledge of me, that I am Jehovah, the One exercising loving-kindness, justice and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I do take delight,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
To show the bible has a balanced view toward money it also has this to say about the subject:
(Ecclesiastes 7:12) . . . For wisdom is for a protection [the same as] money is for a protection; but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners.
(1 Timothy 5:8) . . .Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith.
(Ecclesiastes 10:19) . . .Bread is for the laughter of the workers, and wine itself makes life rejoice; but money is what meets a response in all things.
(Luke 16:9) 9 “Also, I say to YOU, Make friends for yourselves by means of the unrighteous riches, so that, when such fail, they may receive YOU into the everlasting dwelling places.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7) . . . But as to this, he that sows sparingly will also reap sparingly; and he that sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-
