Stock Photography

Well, I have recently started submitting some of my work to a series of Stock Photography sites to be sold as stock. I am happy to finally be making money from old photos that have been laying around on my hard drive for ages. I feel like these photos are actually pulling their weight now! LOL

Anyway, If you have any photos laying around that you would like to make some money from, well here are some of the best stock sites I have found and am signed up to.

Hi Richard, No i haven’t tried Alamy or Imagebroker yet. They are on my list though! As i said, its sill just a recent thing for me, so i am working on the ones above for a start and then will go from there! Thanks for the tip though! I presume you are a stock photographer yourself?? How goes it all?

Can I ask what sort of income is it? Do you have to remove your images from RB to have them as a stock image?
    cheers

Hi Paul, the income varies quite a bit depending on the site and of course the quality of the photo! The better the photos, the more liklihood of them selling. There are two options with the sites, either to go exclusive, or to not. Basically exclusive means that you sell the photo on their site and their site only, for this you get paid a slightly higher fee per download. I have chosen not to go exclusive with anyone, and then upload the same pictures across all the above sites which then increases the pictures exposure, and hopefully creates a greater number of downloads, leading to a higher income. Prices per download vary depending on the size of file downloaded and the use of it anything from about 30cents upwards to $25 or more. (The later is rare) I am only a few months into it all myself, but have found it quite rewarding, and even making 30cents a download beats the pictures just sitting on my hard drive taking up space! Well worth it if you ask me.

Anyway, hope that answers a few questions, feel free to ask anymore you have and i will try and answer them. If you think you want to try it, by using my links above, i will get a referal bonus, so that would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers mate and good luck.

Ryan, it’s a numbers game (to some respect anyway) in that the more images you have with a library the better the chance of making a sale. I have some 450 images so far with Alamy but haven’t sold anything yet. But at least the images are better on there than on my hard drive.

It’s going out taking images of items that you wouldn’t normally think of. Images such as power lines, pubs, every-day street scenes etc. etc.

I don’t normally allow journals to be posted to the After Dark group however this may indeed be of interest to most, if not all, of the groups members.
