outstanding work Simon!
Thank you very much Ushna. I’m honoured
you have put it difficult this time, Simon.I am feeling the bursting of some abcese in this perfect solid female tree.Yes..I can afford to think that there are male and female trees. And that this one not centered but for the abcese has burst it out and let a hungry parasite that had been conceived by a dreamer soul. All of a sudden virtuality is there, as a huge flower, luscious and open, and giving to that soul all that it needs….wings to fly away, far, far, from the rooted mother..legs to crawl up a giant new tree.. this time with rippen fruit…a body perfect in design…and eternally equal to all of the species..Substances coming out of the strange open womb…brain….who knows…?This is talking about violence and innocence…and someone could tell me I am mad because doing such a comparing…nothing more innocent than birthing..and …nothing more violent.I know what I am talking about..Meanwhile…the creature is kept busy on ….suckling.Rosa (I love it!!!!!)
Thank you Rosa, I always welcome your thoughts. The abcess is supposed to be a wasps’ nest but is also a brain. It has exploded through neglect and now there is only one wasp left to rebuild it. The wasp can decide when to turn around and face the problem but is not ready yet.Violence and innocence is very this.Thank you so much.
Great stuff, you certainly have a talent.
This is totally fracking brilliant. Did you know that almost every single fucking species of insect has at least “one” type of wasp that preys upon it?? In a bizarre (or not nearly so) way it means that this drawing controls everything, or is intended to control all the parasites (abscesses) left in the world it represents. Does it tell us we’ve become too complacent? In an odd and strangely vintage black-n-white way it reminds me of the Richard Matheson cult novel “I Am Legend”… a depiction of what happens and needs to happen when only a solitary figure is left standing in the universe, alone.
Thank you Trace, welcome to my page. I did not know that.I’m not 100% ok with how this turned out, the nest (abcess) is misleading people.I have a long story in my mind that’s going to take another few years to fully reveal itself to me but part of it is the wasp(s) taking control and banishing other insects, killing the bad ones, parasites indeed. You picked up on the loneliness, I can’t say remember thinking about that for the drawing but its on my mind. This was inspired by some feelings I dredged up from about 8 years ago and I am pleased to say he did turn around, he did rebuild it and the nest is powerful now.I Am Legend eh? I saw the movie, I love all that dystopia stuff. Thanks so much for your cromulent comments. You’re always one of my reasons to post this stuff.
love this piece Simon, so much work in this :)
Thanks Karin, about a week and a half ;)
someones been eating flowers from the brain tree……
I eat a lot of fish. I don’t like it so much, its just supposed to be good for the brain.
Excellent work YF. Looking at this piece, I’m worried and reassured all at the same time. Beautifully put together.
Thank you, don’t worry, its ok to worry as long as you center yourself and move on.
Excellent illustration Simon!! :)
