Its the working title. I like to index my edits
I haven’t uploaded anything in ages, this was some easy stuff while I’m stuck on some tougher pencil work.
Splines, I can get pretty obsessed with them.
They’re algorithms apparently but most people call them curves. For a computer to make a curve it needs mathematics. Vector design people will be familiar with them from Illustrator but I’m using 3D Studio Max here and the splines therein are more mathematical and precise. They have their own set of complicated rules like everything has to be a closed loop and nothing can overlap. When you do it the way I do its a really pure form of absolute 2d design because it has to be laid out like a circuit board on a single plane. There are loads of way easier ways to do it but this is as much for me as for anybody looking at it. Its like solving a puzzle and I can get sucked into them for days.
The centre white part is one single spline, the blue/black is another and under that I just made a black box, filled it with shiny things and lights and put a highly refractive transparent plane over that with a bump map channel to really screw up any light coming from inside. Its refractive index is 3, so it’d be about twice the density of glass if it was real. My splines are just above it. I added some other stuff to fill space
Then I brought the whole show over to Photoshop to tweak the colours and add some red
I’ve been at it about a week and I think its ready.
I don’t do this for the money and I sell very little so I’ve decided to release the full size jpeg free of charge. I want to show off the detail anyway, you need to see it up close.
Right click and open in a new tab, and wait, and wait
If you’re on dial-up forget about it or load the page and go to bed, the filesize is about 10MB
