Ah, DZ 015. There’s one I haven’t seen in many’s the long year.
No surprises there either, it was pulled in by a quirky set of DMA requests that happened by chance. Its been down there a long time, look at how filthy it is. It hasn’t been connected for ages judging by the damage and the muck in the I/O ports.
I can’t even remember the last time I used something that could connect to it, my equipment has been through at least ten updates since I used gear like this. But it is chained to something, could be nothing or it could be something scary, we’ll see in time. There’s no telling what it actually does til I get it raised and on land, I can’t see anything below the waterline without going down there, and I’m not doing that.
Now that I have it its time to open it and see what’s inside that I could use. While it was a bad day it was a period of rapid technological advancement and I may have forgotten something useful along the way.
Here’s what happened, I overheard one of my housemates jilting someone down the phone. She was really nice about it but firm. It made me think “poor fella, this is Friday night, he was probably planning that all week.” And I remembered one time when I was young, inexperienced and on the receiving end of a jilting. Had a vision, commenced drawing, and here we are.
The process I’ve tried to illustrate is mentioned here at one minute in and I’ll explain it like this;
Words as sounds come into the ear, are translated into sensory information and fed to the brain. The brain must then reference the signals with a concept it has already stored to derive the meaning. This is the memory retrieval phase. The sensory input is represented by the blender which breaks down the info into the reference numbers of the memories needed to construct and the relevant ones are pulled in by a programmable electromagnet. One concept can often pull in thirty or forty memories, here I only have five.
Ever wondered what Britney would sound like if she used her powers for good instead of evil?
I’ve been listening to this dude a lot while I was creating this. He’s a fine upstanding young man from Israel who is advancing society quite nicely and we need more people like him. Inspiring stuff.

Very intriguing drawing with exquisite detail. Love the horse shoe and the blender – what a concept!
theyellowfury replied
Wohoo! Thanks. I have the whole picture of which this is one part in my head, it’ll take years to get it down on paper. You can’t get in the way of the creativity, you have to let it come through you. Michael Jackson said that.

Simon….
language. What a crappy thing when is a mind´s vomit…. even if it seems really..really sophisticated. Remembers me the “new cuisine…” where the presence of an “inmmaterial” almost translucid sauce is covering any object of delicatessen, like and forgive me…. the grass that my dalmatians used to it and expelled afterwords…by a mode of “lost in translation”....
Sometimes…I think I speak like that. Vomiting data, because it is “shining into my brain”...lost time for sensuality… I guess.
And that is here combined with your image. You have a real acid and “dry” mind.
Without knowing it…and thinking it it came to me the image of the Bob Dylan’s creation. Do not ask me why. But it is so.
I beleive that your creation is about “artifacts” and language is like one of the artifacts of our brain developing. The different artifacts you are showing here belong to the tools that we use for easy feeding, easy relating with the world, and easy travelling along our not so easy soul.
And the result is a disquieting environ, apparently ordered, but being at the brim of a cup…that is going to overflow.
Rosa (I love your writing… really I do…)
theyellowfury replied
Thank you so much Rosa. I always love to hear your thoughts on my work. You look at it in a basically similar but distinctly different way to me and I value your input greatly. I think Dylan is one of the best people ever born.
Artifacts is a very good name for them. I take a lot of inspiration from computers and engineering and interpret what I get from my mind in those terms. Everything is represented in both software and hardware and in each “realm” the other is fictional. And stuff crosses over and becomes half real in both at the same time.
Its often surprising how much minds work like computers but there’s always the chaotic natural elements to consider too. Computers aren’t up with us yet by a long way.
That “disquieting environment” is home to me so like my music collection it is quite chaotic but I know where everything is. The core programs (not pictured here) which I have made very carefully are laid down in a very ordered way. It might not always look pretty, I’ll often use something old and tattered but in the very heart of my belief systems it would be in there because it works better than anything else I have or can fabricate. And in the core it must work perfectly.
There are dark corners too of course. Wild places that I have only limited access to. Somebody else is in charge of them. I don’t know who he is and have never met him but I hope to one day. When its all finished maybe we’ll have a talk. I hope he doesn’t do something crazy like try to kill me because then I’ll have to kill him.
It might look a bit like this.
To appreciate it properly you’ll have to adjust your core program to say that violence is fun. This is wrong of course so be sure to put it back again afterwards because letting the violence in your head out into the “real” world, to people out here is against the rules.
I hope I don’t confuse too much by jumping around the metaphysical layers when I talk. That’s the way it comes to me.
Thanks again for your great comment and interpretation. You’re always welcome here.
RosaCobos
You are running wild inside….know it…and that is your “mise an scéne”
I wont say that….”violence is fun”...but I know that it talks with words of a certain pleasure….I usually hate it in films and scares me to death in real life, but I “know” is there…and no one is free from it. No one is wholly inocent…tamed….
You will never meet “him” outside of you…and you will never be able to kill “him”, without killing yourself, that is, denying the possibility of “knowing”.
Do not confuse me. Love jumping around these layers….feeling like a moth around a light…that eventually could become a deadly trap.
Your links are extremely interesting. Fresh and acid. Too much for the coming winter.
A hug, Simon.
Rosa (thanks for your generous counter.comment)

using words as sounds and sensory device is like what James Joyce was experimenting with in “Ulysses” and in my opinion perfected in “Finnegan’s Wake.” i love your stream of conscience designs with retro tech flavor. cheers!

Thanks man, I don’t know Joyce that well but I know he was good.
