Sepia Queen

Sepia Queen

This was supposed to be a practice piece to get me back into it and I got lucky.
There’s precious little thought in the concept but it is inspired by a real person.
Hmmmmm.
I got nothing else, what do most people type in here?

This is excellent! Love what you did here, free flowing works well for you!

Thank you RavenSoul. You just have to get them all going the right direction. I was never that free flowing before, what I’m working on now will reflect that.

  • RavenSoul

    RavenSoul

I think most of my work is free flow I rarely plan a piece it just happens lol I try to plan at times but they usually take their own course = )

  • theyellowfury replied

I saw this yesterday. I’d love to be able to plan stuff out like that but its a mix, some elements I wanted in from the start and some suit what’s been laid down already. However for this I was thinking of someone, started with her eyebrow and worked in other details about her as it went on, very organic and unplanned.

Beautiful and very peaceful. Sometimes if you’ve not done something for a while then try and get back into it again the you’re likely to get a nice surprise. I gave up on drawing for a few years (personal reasons) then one day I started picking up the pencils and brushes and now I have a stack of stuff that I didn’t know what to do with ….. so I stuck some of it on Bubble!

  • PERUGINA

    PERUGINA

    Hi Simon,
Your Sepia Queen is indeed my favourite work amongst your portfolio here on RB, perhaps it’s because I have a fondness for the feminine and goddess.

Your other works and this particularly demonstrates your fine eye.
You are an accomplished graphite artist and this work shows great technical skill.

Reading your thoughts on this shows honesty and I do believe some works “just happen!” You do not need to write great asides to accompany them, and nor do you have to play at being a wordsmith…just as long as you write what you feel, its genuineness should be enough to transfer it itself to your audience.

I love the softness and femininity combined with the hard metal sharp edged mask… those protrusions pointed towards the most delicate and vulnerable part – could go on but will leave it there.

    Congratulations on a beautiful piece.
I look forward to seeing the coloured version of this, however i would much prefer to see a series of these and its concepts carried through.
    All the best.
    Patricia
    :)

  • theyellowfury

    theyellowfury

Wow thank you. The coloured version’s on hold til I figure out a good way of colouring things. And finish what I’m on without starting something new. I just love the drawing phase the most, the PS I could take or leave.
I started with my love’s eyebrow and stopped before I got proper accuracy cos it looked ok, the rest of the drawing came together after that.
I hadn’t really thought about it but the protrusions pointed towards the most delicate and vulnerable part concept, when I find the thoughts that went into it they seem to be from something deep and primal in me. I dunno. Thanks for getting me to think about it.

  • PERUGINA

    PERUGINA

Hi Simon, glad i checked back with you here as i was not too sure you replied as you did not hit the reply to perugina’s comment button… as you have done with others. LOL Perhaps you were totally surprised by my thoughts…and i can get carried away sometimes…and now you know why it takes me so long to get around to all. Tee hee hee

I do see this could have been borne from something deep and primal it has those qualities which are most evident, perhaps deep in your subconscious – have a think and perhaps this will be a spring board for future works.
    I enjoy dialogue like this.
    :)

  • theyellowfury replied

Stupid mistake I spose. What I’m working on now is purely ornamental. I’m hoping to get an idea to weave into what I already have tonight or tomorrow, I need at least one more ingredient.

Very interesting eyecatching piece. The lines are so flowing and the concept really works to make it a stunning work of art. Quite an imagination. I am so staid with my work….very traditional…which I enjoy, but would like to be able to break out and do something really different. Your work inspires me. Congratulations on your feature.

  • theyellowfury replied

Thank you so much. I have to innovate all the time. or I’m not happy. I try to make my ideas consist of stuff that hasn’t been thought of yet. I couldn’t attempt what you do, colour is beyond me right now unless its on the computer. I’ll tackle it someday.
