Let me start by saying this image wasn’t staged. I have more respect for the flag and graves of the fallen. This was Memorial Day weekend and the roadway of the cemetery was lined with flags. As most days in San Francisco, it was windy and this flag had fallen and draped the tombstone as you see it. It struck me as a perfect image and metaphor. After I took the picture I took the fallen flag to the groundskeeper. I altered the photo to make the tombstones and background.
