The “high” today is going to be -3F, so I decided it was time for a shot from a warmer climate.
This flower fell from a cotton tree in St. Petersburg or Clearwater, FL. (I don’t remember which city I was in at that point because this trip was almost three years ago.) Anyway, it was a bit bigger than my hand. I had no idea flowers on trees could get so big!

Were you in my backyard? ;-D
This looks very much like the flower of a “Cotton Tree” ( Bombax ceiba ) like the one in my neighbors’ yard that I can see out my window as I sit at my computer… =)
Nice capture! And yes, they are huge! I was under the tree the other day, and they are big and heavy enough to make an audible “plop” that can be heard from 30 feet away when they hit the ground.

  • Really? They plop? That’s funny! Thanks for the info =)
