Beach House Grill

Beach House Grill

When my children were young we used to visit Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains. Our last trip through I decided I would do some paintings of the less picturesque aspect of our trip. . . painting images of the tourist trap nestled at the base of those beautiful mountains.

Of course the kids love the painting because it sparks deep fond memories of our family trips together.

After nearly two years of on and off painting on Beach House, it’s ready to debut.

another one of your amazing paintings Michael….going to study it in detail now…love those shadows!! everything is perfect. hope all is well.

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Hello Linda, I’ve been working with the scanned image a bit over the past hour. Having trouble getting it looking like the original, but I think the most recent upload is closest. This took forever. . .but I’m glad to have it done. Now I can move on to other ideas. Hard to convey the amount of detail in this painting by these small scans, but I’m still pleased with the overall impression. Glad you dropped by. Cheers!

    Linda Callaghan

you should be pleased …..can never imagine me being good enough to paint like this!!! it is fab.

  • thepaintedsoul replied

I think you paint this well already Linda. We just approach painting differently. Guess that’s what I love about painting. . . we show some aspect of who we are even in the way we paint. : >D BTW, I’m doing ok. . . been frustrated with painting. But I suppose you never feel that way. LOL! Take care!

  • Linda Callaghan

    Linda Callaghan

thanks for the compliment Michael but I am nowhere near to your league…and yes I do get frustrated sometimes I reckon all painters do!...will leave you in peace now…take care yourself and happy painting :-)

  • Lynda Robinson

    Lynda Robinson

Amazing! Really beautiful, professional work Michael. (How was the food at the Beach House Grill by the way)???? LOL!!!!

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Hey Lynda. . .I figured any place that was situated in the mountains called Beach House Grill. . .well the food wouldn’t be so good. : >D

We opted for a drive back over the mountains in the background to a town within the Cherokee Nation, where we ate burgers at a Burger King that has picnic tables on a deck that sits 60 to 70 feet above a trout-filled mountain river.

I am gazing at this and gazng and gazing…there are so many levels to enjoy…the feeling of relaxed summertime, the joys of going on a trip, memories of childhood, all wrapped into one beautiful package…the blue glaze you’ve used unifies the whole and makes more than just a representation…your skill with detail is nonpareil…all told a fabulous work…

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Thanks Janis. . . it has stuck in my thoughts that you’ve been able to see that I’m not a true photorealist, that I love to have some sense of just the wonder of life, even the parts that seem pretty mundane. So I deeply appreciate your observations. Have a good one.

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Yes, some of my friend tell me how colorful my work is, but they often mean they don’t like it. LOL! But then again, they don’t say awesome job to follow it.. They just say “interesting.” So thanks so much for making me feel like I’ve created something of worth, webbie. Cheers!

Wow, the detail and feeling in this is just amazing. Reminds me very much of our own driving holidays when I was a child. Nice work

  • thepaintedsoul replied

glad it brought back some good memories for you. I like recording the somewhat unspectacular parts of a trip because so often that’s when my thoughts kind of find a good place. . .things like being thankful to be out and about, etc.

Anyway, appreciate your dropping by Alexandra. Have a wonderful week! Cheers!

  • Ann Palframan

    Ann Palframan

An amazing painting, Michael. My eye keeps being drawn to the mountains in the b/ground on the left… perhaps all this busy commercial endeavour is merely transitory? Nature will endure? Yes/ NO? Maybe? Also evokes cihildhood memories of long road-trips (are we there yet???) All these vehicles en route to somewhere…little human dramas unfolding. Suffice to say: you really engaged me! Great work!!

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Hey Ann, thanks for the wonderful comment. I guess we think alike. I tend to imagine where people are going, wonder what their lives are about, etc. etc. Guess that’s why I like to paint images like this. They keep me interested for the long haul of bringing it together.

Hope you have a fabulous day. Cheers!

Great painting. Never thought I’d be admiring a picture of a petrol station!

  • thepaintedsoul replied

Glad to know that because that’s my intent. To get people to look at the commonplace things around them. To see that there are some really beautiful everyday, even mundane objects all around us that are pretty cool looking.

Right now I’m doing a portrait of an old “petrol” pump that has been rusting from neglect. So stay tuned. . .LOL!

  • thepaintedsoul replied

That’s kind of you to say so Jim. Nice to know it keeps a person or two looking at it for more than a few seconds. .. since it takes so long to paint. : >D Thanks!
