Listening House: (after Van Gogh)
For a change of pace, I decided to try painting in Photoshop. Never done it. Thought it might be a good exercise. But what to paint. How about a piece that would give me an opportunity to do a variation on one of my favorite artists as well as be a good illustration for my wife’s company Listening House? This is how it turned out.
Size: LARGE
Photoshop on computer screen
artist’s collection, of course.
Listening House: (after Van Gogh) belongs to the following groups:

Well Done! Love This!

thepaintedsoul replied
Thanks. .. it’s such a weird experience to be removed via 0s and 1s. I like the tactile experience of painting. . .but I don’t want to become an old fuddy-duddy, unwilling to try something new.

I love to pain in photo shop but some times don’t feel validated as an artist by the experiance however I am wondering if you enjoyed the experiance of how reactive the medium is
This is a beautiful peace thank you so much for sharing abundance to u and yours

Painting digitally is a weird experience for me, grabaleg. It’s a little too anticeptic for me to do regularly. But I like the change up. Guess I’m just a tactile person. I love swabbing a brush around in these gooey acrylics and dragging them on canvas. Smudging them with my finger, etc. Something just very satisfying about it. But I decided to try painting a few things digitally because I’m cramped for space. I don’t have a tablet. . .I’m just using the mouse which can be a little clunky to paint with. . .but it is a good discipline. : >) Thanks for dropping by. I checked out your work and it’s very beautiful. Nice effects on those remastered images. ANYWAY, HAVE A GREAT DAY! Cheers!

very Van Gogh! Is it more difficult to learn to paint in Photoshop than on canvas? Or is it just a matter of doing a course to give you the basics, and then experimenting? My son has shown me a number of times, but he carries out the steps so quickly, I can’t take in what is being done. As you might have guessed, I am a “senior”, so didn’t grow up with computers.
thepaintedsoul replied
Actually, there’s no way for me to compare. SInce I already knew how to paint before the DIGITAL AGE, (must say this with solemn tonesLOL) I couldn’t assess. But I did work as a graphic designer and did a fair amount of retouching, so I got real comfortable drawing with a mouse, so painting isn’t really any harder for me. But that’s only because my work on the computer is much looser.
It has been good for me at this point in my life to do some work in the computer because my studio space consists of a area the size of a closet. : >)
Cheers!

Thats rather goodly done indeed for one who says they haven’t painted in Photoshop before… Bravo!!!
I must assume you have used painter or ArtRage though…. or similar… even so,Photoshops brush engine is a whole different story. Just goes to show that you can paint some very good traditional style pieces with Photoshop nevertheless…
thepaintedsoul replied
Well, actually, no, I’ve not painted in any digital program. But I used to have to do some photo retouching, so I got used to using the mouse, just because I had to use the clone tool so much in Photoshop for the retouch. : >D Thanks for the compliment.
zooreka
Wow… you painted this with a mouse…even better! =D
