Dutch Still Life II
This painting is an allegory of the Allegory of Painting by Jan Vermeer. Vermeer is one of my favorite Flemish artists. He died in his 40s and left a small body of beautiful paintings. Someday I would love to see one of his originals.

Wow! And congratulations this is a wonderful piece. I like the way the image bridges the gap between several hundred years. You see a contemporary artist’s tools, such as the plastic gloves and the Kodak film case, next to the Vemeer… It is beautiful.
thepaintedsoul replied
Hooray! Love it when someone connects the dots to the idea. . .I’m not always able to convey my vision as well as I’d like. So that’s rewarding to read your observation. Thanks so much!
Janis Zroback
Yes very Dutch….I love the disparate collection you’ve put together, and yet on further inspection, they are related…I look at it and in my life it would be called Richard…. a successful painting, pulls the viewer in and this is supremely successful…
thepaintedsoul replied
Glad you saw these connections. . .I’ve really tried to put an allegory of an allegory together. : >)
Janis Zroback
RIchard was a long time contractor of ours, who could literally do anything and always had a bunch of things hanging off him, so he could be prepared for anything….I was reminded of him when I saw the painting…so goes the connections people have with the things we create…I’m glad you did not make it a complete vanitas…having his skull there would be very strange… :))

LOL

I have looked at this so many times and I never really know what to say. I just think you have such skills. I think photorealism takes so much patience, your eye for dimension, light and shadows is incredible…............I would think acrylic would be even more difficult.
Beautiful work !

Thanks so much. I haven’t posted any paintings for awhile, so I appreciate your willingness to come visit my same old stuff. : >D Take care.,

P.S. Went over to look at your work. You have some beautiful work over there. You have a mastery of several styles. My fav was the one titled Sensitivity. Of course, it would be, because I tend to be more of a realist painter. It was fun to see all the ideas you’ve got cooking. Cheers!
