I took this at the London2012 Olympics Marathon (12 August 2012), at Trafalgar Square – wonderful atmosphere, the crowds were cheering every single runner or group of runners, from the first to the last (this guy was one-before-last on that lap, and I think he was cheered on just as much as the leaders, if not more). Everything was very well organised, and very relaxed at the same time – I’m glad I went to see it and capture some of it.
I found a place where I could step up on the base of a barrier, and take a shot or two before falling back down – most shots were taken single-handed, and on a wobbly support, so I had to straighten this, and crop out someone’s coiffure right in front of me – but there was still enough left. Luckily I shot this in RAW (don’t often do that, but this time I thought I’d better, in case I need some extra detail – and I did).
