Many thanks to the anonymous buyer, who bought a postcard of this at the end of July 2012 – much appreciated!
(AS IS, Finepix F550EXR, f3.5, ISO100, 1/4secs, -2/3EV)
Taken February 2012, so the Olympic Rings are on display.
I didn’t know it until now, but St Pancras Station was ‘designed by William Barlow in 1863, with construction commencing in 1866. The famous Barlow train shed arch spans 240 feet and is over 100 feet high at its apex. On its completion in 1868 it became the largest enclosed space in the world.’ (quote from the station’s website, linked above). Still impressive today, and the restoration is beautiful! The station and hotel are Grade I Listed Buildings

London is quite amazing; even train stations can be tourist attractions. There was so much in the city, that even within the four months I was working there I didn’t get to see everything – including this station. Seeing this reminded be of the day I saw Liverpool station and it’s surrounding for the first time; the stations I was always traveling through most often were not that fancy so I was quite impressed with Liverpool and it’s surrounding; more exciting than the outskirts, but not as crazy as the city. Lovely capture.

  • I’m glad you like it. St Pancras International station and the adjacent hotel were recently refurbished, and for the past couple of years, since being reopened, I kept hearing how beautiful it was. Living in London, I commute to work, but not through this station, so I only managed to go and see it when a friend came to London and stayed in a nearby hotel! Believe it or not, it was about 15 years after first seeing it, and the difference is enormous – I remember it as a quite dark station, with the only colour in it being dark red… looking much better now :-)
