Helios Returning to Oceanus by

(AS IS, f4.8, 1.450secs, ISO100, -1/3EV)
Taken in Mykons, on the Little Venice beach, this is my first sunset where the sun goes into the sea (as opposed to ‘behind some island or some building, or trees’). Of course, this reminds me of the Greek legend according to which Helios drives his fiery chariot across the sky every day, each evening returning to the world-ocean Oceanus, travelling through it at night and returning to the skies in the East by morning.

Look at that sun about to drop into the deep, dark sea. Very moody. Lovely. Must have been wonderful to be there.

  • Many, many thanks for the kind feedback. It was… It was amazing to see all those people gathering for the ‘show’, and just pausing whatever they had started to do, to watch this amazing thing – even if you see it every night, I guess it still fascinates
