Detail of a chandelier found in what I call ’Aladdin’s Cave’ – a bit dusty, but you can tell this was a real stunner once…
Near where I (sometimes) work there is this (very) old house, lost among the new concrete-and-steel buildings. I hope one day it will be restored to it’s former glory, but at the moment it’s used as exhibition and antiques shop – it’s like Aladdin’s cave, really. One room is dedicated to living room furniture, one to display collections (such as butterflies) and one to mirrors of all shapes and sizes, and so on. Going down to the basement, about half seems to be taken by the Bathroom Collection – tubs, sinks, cabinets…. As I said, Aladdin’s cave…
(The place is Brunswick House near Vauxhall Station in London – see the English Heritage entry, the company is Lassco, and most of the objects are reclaimed from (really) old houses being renovated).
