Shown in full glory, at its best in late evening or early morning light – there is no way I will make it there for the early morning, but I made it one Summer evening, just as the light was turning golden.
From Wikipedia:_Ben ‘Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and is often extended to refer to the clock or the clock tower as well.’ Together with The Palace of Westminster, it is part of a World Heritage Site (UNESCO listing)
For more interesting facts, see the official website
Bit of trivia I’ve learned recently (from this very interesting book: the chimes of Big Ben are transmitted live on Radio 4. Because radio waves travel at the speed of light rather than the speed of sound, someone standing outside Parliament hears Big Ben’s chimes on Radio 4 before they hear them from the clock itself.

The lighting and clarity are fantastic!!

  • :-) can’t compete with the Sun on lighting, especially on some London Summer evenings: it gives just the ‘right’ colour to things otherwise grey… Many thanks for the visit and great feedback, and for adding it to your favourites, much appreciated

    Great light, interesting facts!

  • Many thanks, I’m glad you like the photo and the facts – I fond that I learn a lot about the subjects of my photographs after I take them, when I’m posting them here. And that light is payback for weeks of drizzle (sigh!)…

Excellent shot Themis, really nice subdued lighting and awesome clarity!

  • Wow, many thanks Martin, much appreciated – my little compact packs a punch when it decides to behave as asked :-) I’m very pleased with this one too, especially as there was no tripod or other support than my hand (usually it shakes at the last millisecond…)
    Thanks again!
