October evening in Piccadilly Circus by

(AS IS (just 90 degrees turn), Finepix F31fd, f/5, ISO100, 1/17secs handheld)
Believe it or not, this was the colour of the sky that evening in October 2009 when I took this just before heading underground for my trip home by Tube.
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a statue of Eros, but of Anteros, the god of requited love, literally “love returned” or “counter-love” and also the punisher of those who scorn love and the advances of others, or the avenger of unrequited love.

Anteros was the son of Ares and Aphrodite in Greek mythology, given to his brother Eros, who was lonely, as a playmate, the rationale being that love must be answered if it is to prosper.

Beautiful and I can believe that was the color. I’ve seen the sky in so many different colors, it is truly amazing!

    Excellent photo excellent commentary. Congratulations!

  • Many thanks, much appreciated. Although the photo is mine and there is no processing other than rotating right 90 degrees, the description is mostly from the Wikipedia article I linked to. Thanks for making it a favourite!

This is beautiful….Well done…Fantastic sky scape.

  • I shot quite a few pictures from the Tube entrance, but being jostled by people hurrying home, not many came out very clear – this is one of those that did. Many thanks for the visit and compliments, really appreciated.

Beautiful sky you got here! Good pov to get the silhouette of the statue of Anteros.

  • Thank you, I’m glad you like it. I shot it with my arms stretched above my head as high as I could! :-) I must have looked like a tourist :-)

Congratulations! You’re invited to enter this image in the
Historic Landmarks of Europe Dusk or Dawn challenge.

  • Wow! Thank you – I wouldn’t consider this a truly historical landmark, more of a tourist landmark becoming historic due to its age and number of appearances in various literature. Thank you very much for the invitation – I now have a hard time choosing :-)
