Aladdin's Cave (1) by Themis

Photographic Prints

Small (10.7" x 8.0")

(AS IS, Finepix F31fd) R, or U, or O (it’s a Letter on the wall), and C for Clock,Chain or Copy
Near where I work there is this (very) old house, lost among the new concrete-and-steel buildings. I hope one day it will be restored to it’s former glory, but at the moment it’s used as exhibition and antiques shop – it’s like Aladdin’s cave, really. One room is dedicated to bathroom fixtures, another to living room furniture, one to display collections (such as butterflies) and one to mirrors of all shapes and sizes, and so on. Going down the stairs and admiring the wall displays (every little space is used to display items for sale), every one from a different time and place, I noticed this sledge on a hallway table, just under a frieze, among clocks and an alphabet soup… As I said, Aladdin’s cave…
(The place is Brunswick House near Vauxhall Station in London – see the English Heritage entry, the company is Lassco, and the frieze is A composition stone plaque depicting a youth restraining a horse (original in the British Museum, from Hadrian’s Villa at Tivoli)

Love the lighting on this one. Great shot !!

  • Thank you – I really liked it when I discovered it (almost missed it, as it’s on the wall of a staircase not that well lit, in a place FULL of detail), so my eyes were really busy). I’m glad you like it

Great find .. I love the warm tones and eclectic collection! susie

  • Thank you, I’m glad you like it. It’s a photographer’s paradise, but I never can stay in there too long (my lunch break is not long enough, and the smell is sometimes overpowering: the house is really old, and it looks -and smells – like it hasn’t been decorated in the last hundred years).
