…I was dithering over what user name I should choose for registration on this site. Having settled on that and taken the plunge, I uploaded a few pictures and within minutes I had my first comment! A year later, my work has been viewed more than 25000 times, almost 3000 comments have appeared on my work pages, more than 350 times someone liked one of my pictures enough to add it to their favourites, I have added around 950 comments of my own to forums and other people’s work, and even host or co-host 4 groups. Three of my photos made the RedBubble Home Page, and one other has been Featured by RedBubble.
Now, to a lot of you these are nowhere near impressive numbers, but they are to me. A year ago I didn’t think I’d get 25 views, my photos being just small drops in the digital ocean (especially as I still use only compact cameras) – my poor husband had to listen to me shrieking around the house when I got my 100th view, and even more when I got my 1000th! I didn’t think that anybody would like my work enough to vote for it in a challenge! Well, see quite a few did – see my list of top-ten placements since February 2010, and my list of features.
Most of all, I’ve learned a lot about and through participation in this wonderful community.
My thanks go to all of you, who gave my work a second glance and left feedback, featured it or added it to your favourites, and gave me a chance to try my hand at hosting – it helps me improve my photography work, understand a bit about why I pull out my camera and even about what makes me tick :-) As my friend Kim put it, I won’t start naming you all as I’m sure I’ll forget some, so many thanks again to all of you.
(My portfolio will be pruned in the next few days, so this may be the last chance to see some of the photos I posted during the last year. A last minute comment may save some work :-) – I know I’m not the best judge of my work, so you’re welcome to change my mind.)
