This was one of many mandalas created after my trip to Egypt with my husband in 1999. This one was inspired by King Tut’s falcon amulet. The design reminds me of the rising phoenix, a transformation. Falcon is my personal favorite and best represents the dramatic effect Egypt had on me. I also use this image as part of my logo.
In 1999 on a trip to Egypt, I began drawing my first mandalas. Throughout the region, I saw amazing patterns on almost every site we visited. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic and Egyptian art. My heart & soul loved their beauty & symmetry. After I returned, I saw patterns in everything around me. I translate these into mandalas. In 2000 I added meditation to the process so that I could fully explore their metaphysical natures while guiding me on my own spiritual journey.
