I love all things Egyptian and traveled there in 1999. This mandala was inspired by a scarab amulet of King Tut. In Egyptian lore, pharaohs were carried off to the after life on a boat and in this case, it’s King Tut. The cobras represent protection. The Ankh represents the staff of life.

For this piece I used a minimal palette of colors: 3 shades of blue, 2 shades of yellow, 1 shade of red, purple and white. I love the challenge and fun of creating my own colors. I especially enjoy making gold using yellow & purple!

Mandala Message: “At all times, I choose peace.”

In 1999 on a trip to Egypt, I began drawing my first mandalas. Throughout the region, I saw amazing patterns on almost every site we visited. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic and Egyptian art. My heart & soul loved their beauty & symmetry. After I returned, I saw patterns in everything around me. I translate these into mandalas. In 2000 I added meditation to the process so that I could fully explore their metaphysical natures while guiding me on my own spiritual journey.
