I started this asymmetry mandala by drawing in the seven circles and then drawing the curved lines to and from them, creating new, odd shapes in the process.

I used my favorite palette of colors: primary (reds, yellows, blues) and secondary (oranges, purples, greens) colors. When it finished it, it looked like a wild ice cream sundae. The seven orbs reminded me of planets…hence the title for this piece: cosmic sundae.

In 1999 on a trip to Egypt, I began drawing my first mandalas. Throughout the region, I saw amazing patterns on almost every site we visited. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic and Egyptian art. My heart & soul loved their beauty & symmetry. After I returned, I saw patterns in everything around me. I translate these into mandalas. In 2000 I added meditation to the process so that I could fully explore their metaphysical natures while guiding me on my own spiritual journey.
