One of my favorite things to do is to make things on a 2-dimensional piece of paper look like they are 3-dimensional; creating a bit of an optical illusion. This piece started out as a ‘happening’ without any plan or forethought…just playing around to see what would happen. I put pieces of masking tape on paper and then sprayed with watercolor paints. When I removed the tape, I used color pencils to convert each white space area into some form of 3-dimensional object.

Two of my engineering-type brothers picked this one out from all my paintings as their favorite. This is what happens when the left brain and the right brain work together…great fun!

In 1999 on a trip to Egypt, I began drawing my first mandalas. Throughout the region, I saw amazing patterns on almost every site we visited. My analytical mind loved the geometry of the Islamic and Egyptian art. My heart & soul loved their beauty & symmetry. After I returned, I saw patterns in everything around me. I translate these into mandalas. In 2000 I added meditation to the process so that I could fully explore their metaphysical natures while guiding me on my own spiritual journey.
