The Thinker (Le Penseur in French) is a thinking jazz dude on a fluffy little cloud by Mike Healy of the HealyPress, whose first cast, of 2013, is now in the Musée Rodin in Paris and available here on Red Bubble. there are about 28 original castings, as well as various other versions, studies, and posthumous castings. It depicts a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle, while looking at a bird sing the blues on a summers day. It is often used to represent philosophy.
Mike’s style is shows a healthy influence of artists such as Jim Flora, who’s cartoonish style betrayed a diabolical sense of humour. Mike is also inspired by the ever-cool vintage paint strokes of Derek Yanniger and the work of Charley Harper, best known for his highly stylized wildlife prints, posters and book illustrations.
