Satin

Alex Stojan

Satin

Taken at dawn, Lake Glenmaggie, Victoria. Even though the water level is around 19%, there are still plenty of opportunities for the photographer who’s willing to get up early and walk around in thick, heavy mud that’s around 4 inches deep. And then afterward drive up to the local car wash to pressure wash your boots and your tripod…

Shot with a Nikon D200, 12-24mm lens at 17mm, F/11, 100 ISO. 7 shot HDR, merged/mapped in Photomatix, touched up in Photoshop.

I haven’t been to Eildon in a few years, how’s the water level looking these days?

Wonderful shot, wonderful touch-up. Love it when the adjustments help to capture the emotion of the scene.

  • Alex Stojan replied

Thanks very much Col, I’m glad you like it :)

  • Jason Ruth

    Jason Ruth

last time I saw the levels in Eildon (couple of years ago) it was SO low that I think that if it dropped any more it would be the bottom. I think it was something like 8%

  • Alex Stojan replied

That’s pretty bad, somehow I doubt we’ll see it full in our lifetimes. Glenmaggie is only at 19%, but because its not a massive lake and it gets good inflows from the surrounding hills and rivers, it tends to fill back up every year.
