Horizon Burning
Taken at Lake Glenmaggie during the Gippsland bushfires in Dec 2006.
Typical of Australian summers, the combination of extremely hot, dry days (40 degrees celcius and higher), combined with quite possibly the most severe and longest drought in our history produces ideal weather for bushfire activity.
Australia has come to accept that bushfires are a natural occurrence here and that we all have to accept and deal with them.
Horizon Burning belongs to the following groups:

How awesome is nature! [yes I know not naturally lit but you know what I mean]
Chookas to all who survived! ♥
Alex Stojan replied
Thanks adgray, a number of the fires were naturally lit from thunderstorms, and some were purposely lit…. Either way its an awesome and menacing sight!

Ah beautiful capture of such an natural evil beast.
I use to own a block down at heyfield, its so dry there, always.
Alex Stojan replied
Thanks very much Karin, it certainly was a scary beast that year. Although Heyfield and much of that area has been looking quite green lately, and the lake is filling up again so it should be good for summer!
Karin Mai
I remeber driving my car around the bottom of Lake glenmaggie and that was years ago. Its nice to know its filling up again.
Alex Stojan replied
Yeah I’ve been doing that for years too, there’s a lot to explore! I just checked the water level, 85% and rising!
dkleing
Stunning.
Alex Stojan replied
Thanks dkleing :)
