Danes needing peat to warm their homes , dug out this pond by hand during world war ll.
It now remains a beautiful sanctury for wildlife, much sought after by many species of birds.
Taken near my home at Nimtofte in Denmark with a nikon d700 and a 70-200mm lens

I love the artistic flair I see in a group of cattails growing near the water. I have written about them, painted them and gathered them for natural bouquets. Nice shot Alan. It’s beautiful! :)

  • have you experienced taking them indoors and they explode!!? thank you so much Sharon!

No! I didn’t know that. I usually make wildflower bouquets for my porch. There’s too many insects in them to take indoors. I didn’t know that they would explode. I’m glad you told me in case I got any wild ideas. lol……:)

love it Alan, we had peat swamps where I lived in NZ, used to burn for months at a time when there was a fire!!

  • peat has been widely used in scandinavia and scotland, I have seen old photos where they have dug out so that it looks like a quarry!
