Icelandic ponies are fully protected against the cold, infact they love the cold weather! In Iceland they often run wild until they are about 4-5 years old before coming in contact with humans!!
This one prefers the outdoors even though he can go in and out of the stable as much as he wants to.
The icelandic ponies differ from other races in that they have 4 different gaits! They are especially well known for “tolt” where the rider sits perfectly still in the saddle without moving up and down!! This is very practical in Iceland where the rough terrain demand a lot of the rider, who perhaps rides all day driving sheep or wild horses together.
