Kept driving past this on the way back from Leeds and kept thinking, “must take a picture of that tree sometime”. Got lucky with a good day when I had my camera with me:)

Beautiful landscape composition! Stark and desolate; and fantastic lighting conditions. There’s a heck of a black and white image here too; if you’re so inclined. Well done! Cheers! Chris

Lovely colours, very vivid! I like how the tree stands strong whilst the stone wall around has tumbled! Great contrast!

Great Shot, good composition well done.
Richard Ion
Thank you all for the lovely comments.
Heather (Mona & Madge), I’ll give it a go but I’m new hereabouts and not so sure about groups yet!
Robert – I did use a polariser (I use one almost all the time – I can’t be bothered to take it off as it’s so useful!) but very, very rarely use a grad as I find that Nature rarely provides a nice straight horizon and the pictures often come out with dark tops to the hills/buildings. Thanks for inquiring, I’m always happy to chat about such things;-)

Good shot – I guess it must be fairly windy where the shot was taken.
Richard Ion replied
Much of the time it would be Muz – it’s quite high up and not too far from a wind-farm.

Peter Harrison

Lovely image….wonderful sweeping blue sky. superb composition. love the textures in the tree trunk and stone. It amazes me how trees can thrive in rocky places like this…I too have a polariser ‘glued’ to my 18-55 lens…..helps with bringing out the contrast in mushed clouds on grey days….makes water nice and black and takes reflections out when shooting through glass. I love it!!!! Dont see the point in taking it off!
Richard Ion replied
Thanks Simon, yes, the tree the size of this must get through a lot of water and need a lot of anchoring, so how it survives like this is anybody’s guess.
As for the polarisers, you are quite right, not forgetting it works wonders at taking the reflections off foliage.
Thanks again.

Just how many times do we all do that and never get round to taking that shot. I know I have, so well done for managing to take sucha great shot.
Richard Ion replied
It’s normally things near to home or perhaps near the beginning of a holiday – ‘I can always take it another day’ – but another day never comes…
Cheers Glen,
