Starry Night: Yei bi Chei and the Totem Pole by

Of all the beautiful scenery at Monument Valley, this tableau elicits the biggest emotional reaction from me, so I was anxious to capture it using the new low-light capabilities of the Pentax K5.

Pentax K5, 25 seconds at f5, ISO 800, Tamron 18 – 200mm at 33mm. RAW file processed using Adobe Camera Raw.

What a stunner! Beautiful shot of Monument Valley and super composition! What time of evening/night did you shoot, if I might inquire?

  • Thanks, Jan. This was taken at 8:18 – about 2 hours past sunset, under the light of a 3/4 moon. We had to hire a guide to get to this location – it is in one of the restricted areas, off the main road.

stunningly fairytale like, this image is mythical

I believe the totem is the pinnacle they used to pinpoint the hidden Apache valley of gold in the western classic “MacKenna’s Gold”
