Green Door
This shot was taken last holiday season on a night when my wife and I originally set out to look for Christmas farolito shots. We found our route blocked for a Christmas parade and wound up on a side street just off Central Avenue in Albuquerque’s Nob Hill section. Happily, there was this beautiful green door, shining like a beacon. It turned out to be the best shot of the night and one of my favorite night shots ever. Pentax K20D, 3 seconds @ F3.5 with.5 AV compensation, 18mm.

The green & purple colour combo always works so well…...................I like this alot! Great lighting and it’s kind of mysterious….......................
TheBlindHog replied
Thanks, Rose. It is a little more mysterious than you realize. As I was setting up to take the shot a car pulled up and a man got out and addressed me a little brusquely, asking why I was taking the photo. A few unsavory replies went through my mind, but in the end I answered honestly, telling him I liked the colors. The answer must have satisfied him because he walked on and around the corner toward the entrance. The exchange sparked my curiosity and one of the first things I did when I got home was to Google the business name. I imagined that maybe it was going to be in the news for drug busts or other nefarious business. To my surprise, I discovered it was a club that caters to the transgendered. Despite the beautifully styled exterior, it is most definitely a private and discreet club and it is clear the members want it to stay that way. Out of respect for their privacy, I removed the name of the club from the sign and the initials from the awning.

Ha…Ha… Mitch….....you are so darn lucky you didn’t get dragged into the back alley…..........Seriously! That little ol’ sign does make one think it’s a pretty ‘elite’ club….......LOLOL!! :)))))

Beautiful composition and great color contrast. The exposure is spot on and the removal of the club’s name adds a sense of mistery to the whole image. Great job!
