Nice work. :) I have a Tokina 12-24mm ATX Pro that I use on my Nikon D200 and I love it, it’s my favorite lens. What is that you dont like about yours?

  • Phineous Cas... replied

i think i got a dud the colour is way different from my nikon glass its great for open spaces but if i try using it say like in this shot in a forest i cant even get a leaf focussed they just look like muddy or something i no there soft in the corners and have a bit of distortion but this one i have is terrorible ive sent it back only to get another thats worse
is the colour on yours much different like if i set my camera on a tripod and say take a snap with a nikon lens and then change only the lens to tokina the shots are so much different its not funny mostly its the colour i dont like how would yours go if you compared to a nikon lens colour wise ?

  • Phineous Cas... replied

and thx for the comment MK

  • MKWhite

    MKWhite

I would call Tokina and see if they will let you send it for warranty work, something isn’t right with your lens if the colors are off. I haven’t noticed any coloring issues with mine as compared to my Nikon glass.

  • Phineous Cas... replied

no difference @ all in the colour wow mines so different i rang tokina and they said to send it in but after allready returning one im a little worried i may just waste the postage money again i have a 10-17 tokina fisheye its fab took my beached as pic with it check it out itsa rippa and thx matey

Excellent work ! The Tokina hasnt held you back here…what dont you like about it ? -Rick

  • Phineous Cas... replied

gday Rick what do i like about the tokina itsa bit ofa love hate relationship actually mine has real bad chromatic aberations and its very soft though i suppose being ultra wide doesnt help there but i can never get real nice definition or sharpness in say leaves on trees at 100% the leaves look painted though i think my problems are quality control issues it has focus issues at times when i put it on my camera like the connections arent contacting properly though ive come to live with it and now i use DXO Software which has the 12-24 lens module in it which pretty much fixes near all issues especially good on the aberations and such do you use 1 ? tokina 12-24
plus i gotta say for the $ its excellent value $500 for mine though id like the nikon 12-24 though cant justify the huge outlay at the mo
things i like about it cheap to purchase
the colours from it arnt as nice as nikon glass though in my opinion
    thx Rick

G’day Phineous – We have the same setup D300/Tok and i agree on the CA although I had to put the lens on my D50 to really show it dramatically the D300 seems to deal with it well and whats left as you say is very fixable via software.Ive found this lens very contrasty which isnt a bad thing in my view but can effect color but as I shoot in raw I tweak colors anyway. It can be soft at the edges in particular and at large f’s and 12mm.I have found that at 5.6 its greatly improved and its “sweet spot” seems to be around f8-f11.By focus issues do u meaning hunting ? All in all i think its a great lens for me (most of my landscape images are with this lens) particulary at the price … I paid a similar price to you and with the saving bought a Tokina 100mm Macro lens which is a great lens for the price as well ! ~ rick

  • RawImages

    RawImages

PS we would be hard pressed to get one for 500.00 now !!

  • Phineous Cas... replied

yeah ive noticed the prices have crept up lately im usually using mine up and over f /8 all the way to f/18 for my panoramas as im stitching anywhere up to 20 images together it helps to even out all the focus points i feel and as for the focus issues its likes the contacts arent contacting as i have to take it off and put it back on sometimes as it wont do anything was like it since new but i still think its a good lens ha cheers Rick
