Witch Hazel (Hamamelis sp.) in flower by

The Witch Hazels are small deciduous shrubs found originally in N. America, Japan and China. They are much prized for providing some colour in the depths of Winter with their beautiful, delicate flowers.

This beautiful example is in the Winter Garden in Dunham Massey, former home to the Earls of Warrington and now a National Trust Property in the NW of England. Well worth a visit throughout the year.
