Tarragona Cathedral occupies a place of worship going back nearly 2000 years. It is on the site of a Temple to Augustus dating from the time of Tiberius (Emperor 14 AD – 37AD). The present building dates from 1154 AD. Tarragona was the capital of Roman Spain and there are extensive ruins and an Ampitheatre to view which have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
