Goblin High Rise - Pholiota squarrosa by

This group of Mushrooms, also known as the Shaggy Scalycap, was found growing at the base of a Beech Tree in Grizedale Forest in the English Lake District. Once thought to be edible it is now considered poisonous especially when taken with alcohol – another reason it’s unlikely to be seen on my plate!

The way they appear to grown one on top of another brought to mind a series of dwellings built up the slope of a hill. As we all know that Goblins, Sprites and Pixies choose Fungi as their preferred place of abode the title came to mind.

Well spotted. You didn’t see a scruffy photographer with a wee black terrier did you.WE hang out a lot in Grizedale

  • I’ll keep my eyes peeled next time I’m there. Wasn’t hard to find as there were plenty of Shrooms everywhere. Theses were taken by Force Falls.
