This group of Mushrooms, also known as the Shaggy Scalycap, was found growing at the base of a Beech Tree in Grizedale Forest in the English Lake District. Once thought to be edible it is now considered poisonous especially when taken with alcohol – another reason it’s unlikely to be seen on my plate!
The way they appear to grown one on top of another brought to mind a series of dwellings built up the slope of a hill. As we all know that Goblins, Sprites and Pixies choose Fungi as their preferred place of abode the title came to mind.
